Charlotte Autism Insight, PLLC
Are you a parent of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder? Do you struggle on a daily basis to help your child navigate challenges with social communication and rigidity? Do you feel overwhelmed and need support to understand your child's learning differences? You are not alone. I can help.
ABOUT ME
I am Jenny Mathys, LCSW, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and autism expert. I have provided clinical care to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families for the past 20 years within research-based university and hospital settings. I am currently a Clinical Adjunct Professor and Advanced Consultant within the Department of Psychiatry at University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill at the TEACCH Autism Program. As such, I provide trainings nationally and internationally in which I educate and consult with professionals on the specific learning styles of individuals with ASD and help them implement strategies based on Structured TEACCHing.
My intervention philosophy emphasizes family collaboration, a whole person view, understanding one’s learning styles and differences, as well as utilizing evidence-based strategies. I strive to follow best practice guidelines for intervention services which include addressing educational needs as well as core deficits of ASD within the areas of social learning, communication, play and leisure, flexibility, independence, self-advocacy, and self-regulation. I also work with individuals that are twice exceptional (2e) that have high intelligence and challenges with executive functioning, social thinking and/or emotional regulation. I provide specific treatment approaches that may include parent and school consultation, parent education sessions, goal-directed child therapy, social skills training, and long-term supportive counseling. Above all else, I value individual differences, developing strengths, and supporting families.
“We are psychologically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually hardwired for connection, love, and belonging. Connection is why we are here, and it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives.”
Brene´ Brown, Ph.D.

SERVICES I OFFER
DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION
If you or another professional have wondered if your child may be on the autism spectrum, I can provide help. Using standardized-assessment measures as well as an in-depth developmental interview, I can determine whether your child is on the autism spectrum or point you in the right direction to gain guidance related to other concerns. I will interpret the findings to you in a meaningful, supportive way and provide individualized recommendations based on your child's strengths and needs.
UNDERSTANDING AN EXISTING DIAGNOSIS
If your child has received a formal diagnosis from another provider, and you are interested in learning more about his or her diagnosis and how it uniquely relates to your child, I can help you navigate resources and find meaning and clarity to your child's individual profile. I can help you understand the results and how ASD affects your child's specific learning style.
PARENT EDUCATION AND COACHING
I am passionate about helping parents and caregivers feel more connected to their child and confident in their parenting abilities. As a parent of a youngster with ASD or other social learning challenges, it is essential to not only understand your child's specific developmental and learning needs but also their strengths and perspective given their unique profile. I will help you become more empowered and in tune with your child. I believe in a collaborative approach in which parents are an integral part of the treatment process.
CHILD PSYCHOTHERAPY
I provide individual psychotherapy and education in order to address individual needs based on parental and child concerns using evidence-based practices for children and adolescents. After developing a treatment plan based on the initial intake interview, we will identify priority concerns and address them using a variety of strategies such as antecedent-based interventions, cognitive behavioral instructional strategies, modeling, naturalistic interventions, reinforcement, self-management, social narratives, and visual supports. I have built up a repertoire of experience using these tools based on my extensive training in Pivotal Response Training, Structured TEACCHing, and Incidental Teaching.
SCHOOL CONSULTATION
I offer school consultations and trainings in order to help professionals understand students with ASD and encourage the use of evidence-based practice strategies that are helpful within the school setting in order to increase positive skills across domains such as communication, social skills, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and independent adaptive functioning.
